Common Queries
Sadly, in a world of advertising, the word organic can be splashed across labels merely as a marketing tool. In order to guarantee products are organic, they need to be certified by an approved certifying body. This third party assures products have met rigorous standards to guarantee the purity of the product. There are currently 6 approved certifying bodies, each with a unique logo. To guarantee you’re buying a truly organic product, keep a lookout for these when shopping. Click here to view logos.
There are many factors that contribute to organic food being more expensive than conventionally farmed food. The most significant being that the natural farming methods employed in organic food production are more labour intensive. However, cheap conventional food does not include the health and environmental costs associated with chemical farming. Some of these include the taxes spent on cleaning up water and land pollution, land degradation and increased health care. An eye opening video, linking chemical farming to the loss of human health, can be viewed here. Thank you so so much for supporting organic growers and voting for a better food system with your dollars!
